I was lucky enough to draw the Limited Entry San Juan Elk Ridge Deer tag (any weapon) in this years Sportsmans Expo draws. However, I have never hunted this area. Any tips on where to start my scouting?

I have hunted ML deer in UT a few times but not that area ( I never won a tag lol). I hear good things about the area. I would get down there and scout all I could if I was you!

Dont worry about it. Wives come and go but that big buck (or not so big buck) mounted on your wall will be with you forever and Im sure finding another wife would be easier then getting this tag again. LOL

Luckydraw, my wife had the non-resident muzzleloader deer tag there in 2012. Send me a PM, we can set up a phone call and I'll tell you everything I know.

A great tag to have. My friend had that tag 2 years ago. He said that he read about a few spots to hit, and I cant remember them righ off my head, but he said there were a ton of deer on the archery hunt. He shot a toad. 195" buck. Call the biologist in that area. He gave my friend some great tips on where to start and worked well for him. Good luck, but apparently you all ready have the luck!!!

Look into the Beef Basin area , I had the ML tag in 1996 and it was very poor then, spent a week prior to the opener scouting and never saw any good bucks , I hope it has gotten better since then, we hunted both high and low.

Good luck on the hunt.
