so i have been reading people in other stated using salt licks in the off season to attract deer. and was wondering if it is legal to do that here in California. this will be my first year deer hunting and dont want to start off the wrong way...

No way jose. You cannoy kill a deer within 400 yards of bait. Which the salt lick will be considered bait. there is no baiting allowed.

Its illegal to put salt licks, or bait ect in Illinois but they sell them at basspro and cabelas. Kinda like radar detectors, legal to buy, illegal to use. Illinois' reason for banning them was in an effort to stop the spread of CWD.

Every state has different laws concerning salt licks & feeding/baiting wildlife. It can be trickey, especially if your state allows something different than the state you plan to hunt. Do the research and be safe. When in doubt, ask the forum.....as you found out!:cool:

I think ole Ted Nugent got slapped with a cali fine for hunting over bait last year. I believe he apologized and took blame for not learning laws prior to.

Nugent also had a problem bear hunting in Alaska because he didn't know the law. For someone with the national exposure he has and seting himself up as an example of a gun rights and hunting rights champion, he really should be ashamed about this. Either he didn't do the research (or didn't care) and paid the consequences. He didn't do any favors to us because of this. He lost any respect I might have had for him. Don't watch his shows anymore....didn't really listen to his music either!!

Ca is crazy with their regs, now we can't use lead to hunt with!

Boss, Did that law pass? If so when will that take effect? I have a lot of money in lead core weatherby rounds for hunting, what a bunch of BS. I love California but HATE the political party's and tree huggers in our state.
