this isn't meant to light a fire under anyone I just want to know everyone's thoughts. don't take me wrong either, I love chasing hounds after bears as much as the next guy, but with that said.... have you ever had a elk set up or several setups blows by hounds running through your canyon blaring out loud? happened to me a few times this last 16 days. at first it was pretty cool, but the 3nd and third time I was like, really?? not against the hound thing at all, just wish it wasn't open during archery season. again no offense to you handlers, just curious what others thoughts were.

Yea. there isn't any since in hound season interfering with archery season. Sounds to me like another botched management job by our wildlife over-see-ers. I don't think the hound handlers would object. My brother had hounds in Northern Calif. Not sure, but I don't think they were allowed to run them during deer seasons. It's just another area where someone in a management position has no common sense.

it was a fun hunt, I had a blast! passed up on some small guys and on so many freaking cows. rut has been so weird this fall. finally had a wet cold spell hit that fired things up but for the most part dark time hours is when the action was hitting. I had bulls sounding off no more than 20 feet from my spike camp during the night. it was a cool experience. taking son up on Tuesday and Wednesday so he can get close and personal with some screaming bulls. ill tell ya though.... I cant wait to wrap my hands around my .270 come October and chase after some of these brutes that are in there.

i wouldn't be too impressed with hounds running around during elk season. Sound like you had some great encounters with elk. Enjoy the time with your son and good luck during rifle season.

Never had it happen in a Western state. It isn't a rare occurrence here and I'm not real thrilled about it.
