Rmef water guzzlers

The last few years I've noticed some in the area I hunt that are no longer working. Today I came across some water barrels in good shape on Craigslist. 3 hours later and I have 165 gallons of water in my truck ready to go on a little adventure tomorrow. I already had the day set aside for setting up cameras. I hope to be able to roll the barrels to one guzzler tomorrow then purchase a trash water pump in the future. Taking a broom and drain snake to see if I can get the one back in shape for the year.

I'm wondering why they aren't maintained. Perhaps a phone call to the RMEF would be in order.

Usually the RMEF will do the work on the guzzlers and then turn them over to the state, then it is up to the state to do any maintenance on them that is needed. But the state could always go back to the RMEF and ask for assistance in maintaining them.

my father-in-law swears by the gas trash pumps from harbor freight. They use them and abuse them on commercial construction jobs. Its harbor freight so you kinda hope to roll the dice on a good one.

I've been saying that you just roll the dice on anything from HF for years now and I have yet to have one of their tools give up the ghost. I have purchased a number of their power tools with the idea of if it just last me through one job I am money ahead and they just keep on chugging.

I was able to unload all the water from the 3 barrels into the trough, then put the rest into the tub. The float pump was on the ground along with locks on the top to the tub. I wanted to get some pictures of it to send to the State along with RMEF so they can see the condition it is in. The trough also has a large crack that is letting the water I put in, out unfortunately. There is alot more work in order to make this a working guzzler.

So after almost two weeks I went back to check. I had a camera right on the water hole and one about 400 yards away on a trail crossing. There was about 2600 pictures between the two. Tons of cows and calfs, a few spike bulls along with one whitetail buck and some muley and whitetail does. There were also two people who left my camera alone which was nice. The water was completely empty today so in went another 110 gallons. I have not heard back from the SD chapter of RMEF. I might send some new pictures to national email accounts.

It is going to depend on the water source. I have seen some built that it is mostly just the time to do it and I have seen others where there is a lot of time and material to get the water to where you want it.
