Just got back from the Dr's office. Been I month since surgery. Took all 40 staples out today, xrays look good and can now put weight on the ankle as long as I wear the boot. I'll start PT in 2 weeks. Have had almost no pain and only a small amount of swelling. He was pleased with the progress.

Been a long week! After the Doc said I could start walking on the ankle on Monday, I took him at his word. Tuesday I did a few cleanup chores in my gun/reloading room. went to my supplier and bought 5m small pistol primers and reloaded 1000 .38 target loads. Wednesday I shot in our winter bulls eye pistol league. (shot a 582 out of 600) Thursday I went to the bank, filled the truck with diesel, cleaned my target pistols and helped my wife with some housework. Yesterday I went to the market and bought everything I need to make 3 doz enchiladas next week, bought a gift card and went to my Shrine Club's Christmas Dinner last night. Got up kinda tired this am!

Ankle still feeling fine, a small amount of soreness, no swelling! Sitting on your butt for a month will sure get you out of condition, to do even small chores! Oh well, no problems mate when I have a little Bailey's in my morning coffee.............

Just got back from the Dr fro my 6 week checkup. I don't have to wear the boot anymore and start PT tomorrow. Dr said everything looks great. I am really surprised at how well the healing is going and how little pain and swelling I am having. I just have to wear the soft support I have worn for several years. Next appointment is in 6 weeks, just after I get home from Yuma, Az and the big regional Cowboy shoot. I am shooting so we will se how it goes. I probably won't shoot real well as I havn't shot or practiced in a couple of months, but it will be fun anyway.

Thanks for everyones encouragement. I'll be getting back to the gym soon and have awhile to get into elk hunting condition!

Just as short update. I am now 10 weeks out from surgery and the ankle is progressing way ahead of schedule....according to my Therapist. I am walking without any limp and virtually pain free. Very little swelling after PT. Walking a mile or so, when the weather permits. Big test this next weekend. Leaving in the morning for Yuma, Az for a regional cowboy shoot, 300 or so shooters for the 3 day shoot. Lots of movement in the stages, so I'll really give the ankle a test.

So far am really confident this procedure was right for me and I'll be able to really get back to hiking and hunting this fall!

Great to hear. Hope you are able to be back on the mountain in top shape this year. I've had a couple of sprained ankles, but nothing any worse than that. It was a pain in the butt with the sprains!

Home from the shoot...was the trip from Hell! Truck breakdown, towing rig for repair......and the shoot..

Shot 3 stages Friday and did ok. Saturday was another story. Got up in the am and the ankle was a little sore. Shot first stage, all ok, but ankle started screaming at me! 2nd stage worse and decided to bail out of the shoot. No sense stressing ankle any more. Doc told me "Your ankle will tell you when you should stop doing what you are doing". I am now 11 weeks out from surgery and still doing 3 weekly PT sessions. I have an appoint for my 3 month eval with the Doc on Wed. Hope he gives me the green light to go back to the gym as I am really out of shape from 6 months of basically doing nothing.
