I have two of them. Both have 3X9 Leupole Rifleman Scopes on them.

I loan those guns out a lot.

And yes, I am originally from Pennsylvania. Both are in 30-06 and they are very accurate and deadly in the hands of a guy who knows how to shoot a rifle. Ive shot quite a few deer on the run with my rifle.

I'm surprised they never offered one in any of the big magnum calibers.

If we are bear hunting or driving deer in PA you can bet it is what I have in my hands.

VERY fast follow up shots. I can hit a pie plate with mine 5 shots in 5 seconds at 100 yards off hand.

I always wondered how many people can do that with a bolt action?

Oh ya, they kick like hell. Replace the butt-pad...

Don't kid yourself about them not being a "out west" rifle. My brother in law in Utah hunted with one for over 30 years and took elk and deer with it. He also took his to Canada for a moose hunt. They are a solid rifle and in 30-06 caliber are quite capable rifles for North American game except for the big bears, and if the shot is close enough and the shooter does his job even the big bears can be taken cleanly with one.

I have read that Larry Benoit was a fan of the 760, I also agree 760 in the 35 Whelen would look good beside the Model 14/141. Reason enough to get one !!!:)
What other Calibers did the Model 14 come in ? The 30/30 ?
I had an early 760 gamemaster carbine (18" barrel) in .280 Remington with a Leupold 2x7 compact scope. My nephew owns it now.

I have a good friend who has this rifle in 270 Win. The only big game rifle he owns, and he's made some incredible shots with it over the years. Plain-jane remington core-lokts and it just keeps putting notches on the board! Good luck with yours and you better believe its a western rifle if you want it to be!

Any gun can go "out west"! I went to Wyoming with a 30-30 made in 1897 and killed an antelope with 1 shot! It was the only gun I took with me. I was going to kill an antelope with it or die trying!

I owned a 760 in 30/06 many years ago. The stock did not fit me very well, and with its steel buttplate, I thought it was one of the worst kicking guns that I ever owned. Traded it for a Remington 600 in 35 Remington. I later picked up a 760 in 35 Remington. Nice shooting little gun, but I use my .35 Remington XP-100 much more for accuracy reasons.

Loveland, CO. was AZ.
My Dad has one, bought it brand new in 1963. Has taken many deer and elk with it in our home state of Colorado. Good find!! My dad hunts with open sights to this day...

My dad bought one chambered in 270 for hunting PA whitetails but he was never able to shoot it much; the recoil bothered him. I think (but I'm not sure) the newer models had a little bit narrower butt on the stock, possibly making the perceived recoil a little worse. Since he passed away my brother has been taking it to gun shows trying to peddle it, but don't know if he has sold it yet. My older brother got another one chambered in 30-06 for PA whitetails and he can't hit the broad side of a barn with it, but I seriously doubt there's any problem with the gun (if ya know what I mean).
