Reloaders, what is your favorite magnum caliber powder?

I just bought a 7mm RUM, and I need to get some ammo loaded up. I've had great luck with H1000 in 7mm Wby Mag, but I've heard good reports about 7828 and RETUMBO in the 7mm RUM as well. I'll probably start with 160gr AccuBonds.

Any suggestions?

I've had good results with H1000 and 7828 SSC in my rifles and my brother has had good results with RETUMBO and RE 22 in his so it just kind of depends on the rifle. (and availability of the powder of course)

I reload for my 7 mm rem mag using IMR 7828 with 160 grain Accubonds. I get 3100 fps mv and get sub .5 MOA accuracy out to 600 yards. I have no first hand knowledge of reloading for the 7 RUM, but most things I read talk about Retumbo as the standard 'go to' powder.

Good Luck

Like I've said in a number of other posts on reloading, every gun is different, even the same caliber & manufacturer. You just have to start experimenting with loads until you hit the right combination. Overbore (and that's what the Ultra mags are)calibers are a little harder and require real slow burning powder.

Good luck and get some loaded and spend some time at the range. If you have a chronograph, be sure and use it as it will help a lot.

I have had great success with a hefty charge of Hodgdon 4831 behind my 160 speer mag tip in my 7mm Rem Mag. I have also worked up some loads with nosler partitions and reloader 25 and have had just as good of success.

This is all coming out of a Remington 700 BDL

If I were limited to one powder to load my .270 Win & 7MM Rem Mag, it would H-4831. I can easily get 3200 FPS with 150 grain 7MM Rem Mag loads and I can easily get 3100 FPS with 160 grain 7MM Rem Mag Partitions using it. I have also used R-22 & IMR-4350 with excellent results. The reality is that there are probably better powders, but I just don't have inclination to work up loads. I know what works, but that doesn't mean that there aren't combos that'll work better.

The .270 Win & H-4831 is a perfect marriage.

H1000 is a good choice. But U mite end up trying a few different powders. Like others have said....
Yeah, I understand. I'm mostly trying to decide which one to start with. If it doesn't suit me, I'll try another one next. I don't really want to buy a pound each of several just to load 10-20 rounds. Although, with the RUM, that might take the whole pound, I guess. :D

My stw's love 7828 ssc one .300 loves h1000 the other loves h4831 not the fastest load for a .308" 180 gr slug but super accurate. My 300 wby likes retumbo and I use rl 25 in my 6.5-06(not a magnum but still fast.) just have to experiment and see waht your gun likes. Ive used 7828 ssc and retumbo for a friends sendero in 7rum with great results.

My only Magnum caliber at the moment is a .338 Win Mag and my favorite powder is IMR 4350. I also use it in two other calibers.
