REI 20% Off Sale

For those of you looking for boots or other outdoor products, REI has their annual 20% off sale starting Friday May 15. I'm planning to order a pair of Zamberlan boots and that will save me nearly $70, plus they earn a year-end dividend for another $34.

They told me about it at a local store and I just got two 20% off coupons in the mail, good for one item each, one of which is an outlet coupon. You always get a 10% dividend when you buy anything, good for a discount on another item or you can request a check for your dividends at the end of your year.

I don't see any ad online about the anniversary sale. It starts May 15 so it may pop up then. You can also call them or stop by a store.

I think the membership is a one time purchase as long as you maintain an active membership status. I just wrote a term paper about REI and cooperatives. I could have misunderstood though...They also provide a credit card that will give you 1% cash back on everything and another 5% cash back on REI purchases. The cash back comes with your yearly patronage refund.

The membership fee is a one time only fee. Unless its changed the 20% off is one per membership. You can't use multiple coupons. Its a good deal, I usually use mine every year.

Just joined. $20 one time only. I was told they do the 20% off thing a few times per year. I bought trekking poles with mine. The CC looks good for REI purchases, and right now they are giving a $100 gift card if you sign up and purchase someting with it(doesn't say a minimum $ amount on the purchase). I am not one to go out and tell people to get credit cards, but seems like an easy way to get $100 off something if you don't mind the hit to your credit report.

I got mine two days ago and heading there today for a zero degree bag? Any thoughts on a bag. I talked to a store rep yesterday he recommends a Sierra Design bag @ 13 degrees with if needed a bivy sack?

Thanks for the heads up hoshour. I am looking for Zamberlans as well. This sounds like the time to make a purchase.

Went in today for some new summertime backpacking boots. Been wearing the Asolo TPS for several years and have owned a few pair of the exact same boot. I went in thinking I wanted to try something different. After trying on a dozen or so brands I walked out with some brand new Asolo's with some new Sole insoles! At least they are a different model of Asolo's. They just fit my feet right. The Zamberlan Vioz were a very close runner up though.

Saturday they have the Garage Sale at the local REI. Don't know if you've ever been but it's popular because of the extremely liberal return policy. Basically, you can return things to REI for any reason and a lot of perfectly good stuff gets returned and then sold for cheap at the Garage Sale every six months. If you're a member they email you the date.

People line up before the store opens because it is a free-for-all when they open the doors. People head straight for the bins and start loading all kinds of stuff into their carts, then take them down a nearby aisle and sort through them and put the stuff they don't want back. It's every man (or woman) for himself.

Not really my kind of shopping to say the least, but you can get some really great deals if you're willing to put up with the crush and hang around for a few minutes to see what goes back. In 15 minutes it's all over. It's wild in the wrong sort of way.

The dividend and sales are really nice, I picked up an REI day pack for trips, it was on sale and I paid for it with my dividend, nothing extra out of pocket. The wife was even impressed...

I just got a new pair of Merrell boots for $70 during their 30% off sale.
