We decided where to use our points for an area but are looking for a 2nd choice and are thinking of Area 132 west of the Flaming Gorge Reservoir. Have only driven by this area on I-80, and I always look forward to the biscuits and gravy at Penny's Diner (always stop there on way to elk camp). Google earth is nice but was hoping for a little more advice. I assume its pretty dry so looking for water is a must. Lots of BLM land which is why it got our interest. Region K has a 3-point restriction which we think...might make it less crowded? Would really appreciate any advice.

Thanks laxwyo. That was a suspicion of mine with it being close to a town and just off the highway. With the lack of public area to the west in K, will keep looking at other areas for our 2nd choice.

There's lots of road hunters etc in that area. A guy at work killed an upper 180 buck there a few years back. The south slope of cedar doesn't have road access and a guy can get some walking in. There's just a lot of people everywhere

I don't think you will draw k second choice, I think it takes at least 2 points in the regular draw. If I'm looking correctly.

Thanks everyone for pointing out the draw for me. Not sure what I was thinking when I thought K would be good for a 2nd, LOL. May just have to stick with Region R and be with the masses. Hopefully we draw our first choice and then I can start saving my point for G or H.

Sorry for more bad news, but R takes 1 point to draw now also.

Well, looked at all of those units, and because we'd like to get a tag we are going to try for E. The others seem to have limited public land, or areas that we aren't that interested. F looked interesting by Thermopolus and along with some BLM land by Wheatland. I hunted pronghorns up around Riverton two years ago, but man this is a huge area. We did see a couple of mule deer, although nothing to write home about. Think we will focus on the Areas 96/98 as there looks to be some hills in there someplace, LOL.

There is a lot of awesome country in F, but lots of bears to. I used my points last year so might try f this year. Still undecided, I guess I have to make up my mind pretty quick.

Totally understand that mnhoundman. I'd go for F for our second, but my third in my party isn't fit enough to hike those hills. My archery elk buddy, we'll go about anywhere, but I'd kill the person we invited along for this mulie adventure. I'm okay with bears with a gun. Its when I'm archery hunting for elk that I get a little concerned. I drew a bear tag in Wisconsin this year. I assume by your handle your into bears. Took me 10 years and we are picking up cookies this weekend. Start baiting first week of June.

Yup, we chase about everything. The bear in the picture is actually in wisconsin, i cant beleive it takes that long for a resident to get a tag. It took me about 5 years, that was in 2005 i think.

Yea, its ridiculous. I've got a sow and 3 yearlings in the neighborhood and I'm waiting for them to get in trouble this year and be trapped. I've got a bear that I can't get my fingers to spread across his tracks in an area I bowhunt for deer. We do need to reduce the population in this state.

We try to make a trip out every year just to chase and run the dogs, we know a few people that live in Minong where we run. There's bear everywhere, you can bait every hour and it will be cleaned up!

I've deer hunted by Minong, Solon Springs and Gordon for 40 years. My brother has a cabin, well second house, on the Minong Flowage. I'll be there Memorial Day weekend to chase a turkey. Small world. He's had a bear on his porch last year. But he's a dumb ass and leaves his bird feeders out.
