It looks like the beginning to the smoke pole season is going to be a wet one up high. The amount of rain we are getting is crazy.

I remember 2 years ago when I went with my smoke stick I got rain or snow or something every day up high. Wish I was going this year! Im really missing the high country right about now.

Been raining some every day here for several weeks. Last year during M/L season in the area I was hunting, rained every day. We have had enough rain/runoff, that our irrigation company extended our water season for a couple of week. Might get enough to get a third cut of hay, but now we need a little sun. None today or yesterday, rain almost all day today.

Yeah, it is going to be cool and wet. Probably good weather to keep the animals moving during daylight. But I wouldn't mind if it dried out a little.

I am headed up to unit 45 NW of Leadville. Hiking in a few miles to camp at 11,600. Think I'm going to get some better rain gear first.

I am not hunting in Colorado, pref pts only this year. I leave for calif next week for a wilderness deer hunt with my family. We will be packing in to the same camp we have every year since 1946. My Dad passed away last fall and we are taking his ashes up to his favorite spot on the mountain. Be 10 of us, all family for a week.
Then I am probably going to Texas in Dec for hogs. I am alos in the process of booking a guided hunt here in colorado for next year. Was going this year, but the outfitter selling business and not too sure about the new owners. It would have been a second season OTC tag.

I couldn't be happier for the rain and the almost 20 degree cooldown we have had had. I leave tomorrow morning for my unit 201 m/l hunt. I have enough gear packed for the full 9 days in the field if that is what it takes.

Good weather to stalk in, it will keep it quiet and keep our scent down. I am loaded for 9 days as well if that what it takes. I will be hiking in 3.6 miles to base camp. Can't wait.

Sprinkled a little this am, but pretty sunny the rest of the day, a few clouds in the PM. Talked to one of the neighbors who just got back from archery elk hunting all this week about 20 miles from here. He camped at 10, 500 and said it rained every day. Grass is lush and elk are just starting to get active and he heard several bulls bugleing. He shot (with his bow of course) a absolutely beautiful bear. Biologist said it was a 10+ year old sow, weighted 350 to 400 and was blond. Had no cubs and was rolling around in an elk wallow. He showed me a pix or 2 and it was really nice. He is having a full body mount, Taxi said hide was almost 80"...long I guess. Looks like it might get interesting as the weather is forcast to clear up and cool down.

Good luck to everyone hunting Colorado and stay dry. Hopefully next time I am on here I have a big buck at the taxidermist.
I'm stuck and I can't get out!.. Poudre canyon (Hwy 14) is closed from Teds Place to Walden, but for me to get to North Park if I could get to Laramie WY then I can come south to Walden. However, all bridges in Fort Collins across the Poudre are closed as well as I-25 closed northbound to the WY border. Since I am on the south side of Fort Collins I can't go north to get on to 287 to Laramie. And now the forecast is calling for several more inches of rain Saturday night into Sunday morning, so if they do open the roads tomorrow morning I may not get back on Sunday. My plans to be hunting tomorrow morning for opening day of Muzzleloader season will have to wait until ???.. It sucks when you can't get there from here...
