Any one have any reccomendations on radios for hunting. My dad and I are looking into getting some for next season. They will mostly be used in the mountains elk hunting but we will never be more than a mile or two away from each other. I have looked into some Midland and Motorola models but the reviews are all over the place with them. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jeremy

I have midlands 14 mile. They work well. Don't think they would go 14 miles unless you over water. Deep canyons can cause some interference at times but still for the cost I'm happy with them

It has been a while since we had to buy any, so this advise may be obsolete. Make sure the radios have a vib alert option and the "roger" beep can be silenced. if they have a rechargeable battery pack, make sure you can swap out AA if desired. We have been using Motorola(along with Garmin Rino) since the late 90's and have been happy.

I've been having problems with my Motorola's. You can't get over 1/2 mile away from each other or they don't work. That's in fairly open country too.

I've had negative experience with the motoralas. I gave mine away. The best is the gps/radio combo in the Garmin - but that's a pretty penny to pay if you're only looking for radio capability.

Thanks guys. Ikeepitcold, do you have the model numbers on the ones you use? Couldn't find 14 mile ones.

I used to have some cobra radios but the on/off button was on the front and they kept turning on whether you put them in big pocket or in a fanny pack. Every time I checked they were on and the batteries would die.
Now I have a pair of Motorola radios with the on/off knob on top so you have to turn the knob and they don't turn on in your pocket by accident.
