I have never hunted Nevada for big game, only upland game. I hunt mostly Colo & Wyo and am familiar with the point system there. Been looking at NDOWs site and find it a little confusing about points.

Can I buy just points for the 10.00 fee they have?

Is it like the other 2 states and the best areas take lots of points?

How long has Nev had points? I really couldn't tell from their statistics.

I am seriously considering antelope and deer.

Thanks in advance.......

You can buy points for the $10, but you have to purchase the hunting ($142) or combination (hunting/fishing $199) license.

Typically the best areas do take more points, but I know big areas that you would have a better chance at hold monster deer.

Im not sure of the exact year they went to points, but I do know that they have had it for at least 23 years. I think they have overhauled the system once or twice, had plenty of friends lose lots of points due to this. I'm thinking they got a good grasp on it now.

You can get a refund on the hunting license if you dont draw but you wont get a point so you have to buy the license if you want points. The better units take alot of points but you could also draw anytime with their bonus point system. There is a 5 year waiting period after you harvest an antelope, 10 years for elk, no waiting period for deer. I think there are some decent Muzzleloader hunts you could hunt every few years for deer.

Drawing tags is difficult even for us resident hunters. It took me 14 years to draw a bull elk tag and I had 5 points last year when I got my last antelope tag. Deer take a few points for the areas with only a few tags, but any area can produce a monster.
I've got 8 points for bighorn, mtn goat and I think 5or6 for bull elk again after waiting the required 10 years to apply again.
It's especially hard for non-residents to draw tags because they give out so few tags to them. Then again people draw tags every year with no points at all. So can't draw at all if you don't apply.

So it is $152 to get a point in NV.....dang. I guess you'd may as well buy points for everything since the $142 is a fixed price.
