We feed ALOT in Texas to help supplement our herds diet and health, that being said you can feed plain old 1/8 or 3/8 creep pellets between 16 to 20% for much less money than a branded mule deer pellet, the name is a gimmick, feed is feed!

(This is assuming we are talking a good side pasture, like 100 acres or more.)

You never said what kind of Ag Crops are nearby as food sources. If it is Alfalfa, there is plenty of protein.[/QUOTE)

2rocky,
Smallest is a little over 100 acres in size. Pasture on 3 sides and corn field on other side. Wheat is close always, usually milo close and alfalfa is 1/2 mile away. We really don't see them much on alfalfa here, but winter wheat is a big attractant as it is the only green this time of year. Plan to plant a few small plots of milo in the canyons along with some wheat and triticale. Milo always attracts Muleys in our country. Great idea to mow down some of the old growth.
Thank you for all the info, ideas and help.

The WT, MD, and Antelope are hitting the wheat hard right now in Western NE. Even had a herd of elk about 3/4-2 miles behind the house out in the open for the last month. Saw huge groups of antelope on my way from Colorado today. Picture 101.jpgPicture 110.jpg

WW should have the higher moisture content for digestibility and nutrient absorption. Anytime we get prolonged cold snaps or temps plummet they'll hit the corn for quick carbs and then browse the wheat for a while. Hogs are the same way, but their intake skyrockets since they have a hard time regulating body temps.

You'll find that the lactating does and younger bucks still in skeletal growth will be the main ones hitting the supplements. Those does starting the fawns off right should be one of the main concerns.
