I just learned I was successful in drawing a unit 30 tag! I am excited, never hunted Wyoming and certainly did not expect to pull this tag. Now what? I hate to be this guy, but have no clue about hunting elk in Wyoming? It`s been a dream of mine and I put the plan in action a few years back, and here I am now. I have been hunting all my life here in Alberta and really want to make the best of this tag because it seems to be a premeir tag. ANY ADVICE OR SUGGESTIONS SURE WOULD BE APPRECIATED!

Congrats on drawing a good tag. I am from Rock Springs, which is just on the north side of Unit 30. I have never personally hunted elk in unit 30, it is a really tough draw especially for residents since we can't build points, but I have spent a lot of time out there.
There are a lot of good bulls out there. On the east side of highway 191 it is mostly open sagebrush country with some small patches of trees up on top of Aspen Mtn and down in the canyons that run a little water. There are some juniper forests out there as well. I have seen big bulls both on top of Aspen Mtn and down in the canyons that surround it. I think setting up on water could be pretty effective out there since it is a pretty dry area.
The west side of 191 has a lot of elk also and and is more Juniper forest than sagebrush but there are both, and has a little more water than the eastern part of the area.
Glassing from the canyon rims and any high points will be effective, but finding cover for a stalk might be tricky in the more open areas.
Are you planning on hunting archery or rifle season?

congrats again.....that is a good tag, maybe not the best area around Rock Springs, but still very good. like elktracker, im also from Rock Springs and have hunted that area several time myself and helped friends in the area. if you have any questions or need any help of any kind just pm me. i would be willing to help you out as much as possible, my elk hunting is usually done in september, so im usually open in october.
archery or rifle is a very good question....not sure about out of state hunting, but instaters can hunt any and all weapons, but the seasons are different. just pm me and i will try to answer all questions and help you get things going as much as i can.
