I am from Oklahoma and I am interested in applying to hunt in Wyoming for antelope next year, and I was wondering about what the acces to public land is like for out of state hunters? I read that in order to hunt wilderness areas I must be accompanied by a guide. I want to do a public land DIY hunt and I do not want a guide unless I absolutly have to. Does a non resident have to have a guide to hunt BLM land or walk in areas?

You won't find antelope in most wilderness so that shouldn't be a concern. The remaining public land in the state is open to residents and non-residents alike. You should buy a preference point before the end of September to increase your chance of drawing a tag in any area with accessible public land. For good areas, it usually takes 2-5 points to draw, and over 5 points for premium areas like the red desert. You can do a lot of research on the Wyoming game and fish web-site under the drawing odds section. Good luck to you.

Thanks. I thought I read it that I could hunt the BLM land as a non resident. I will deffinetly put in for a point if I still can. I assumed the deadline had already passed.

Good advice so far. Get a point and get into the MRS section of Eastmans (assuming you are a member) you can find all kinds of good info on the amount of public land in the different units, draw odds, success rates, etc. You should be able to find a good place to hunt next year with 1 point. There are lots of antelope in Wyoming so you should not have trouble if you do your homework.
The only place you can't hunt is in wilderness. Other than that you re good. Make sure to check out the atlas on the WYO G&F website. There is a lot of walk in hunting land available as well.

public access isnt a problem in alot of the units,,check the maps for blm "tan" areas,,,the wyoming gazateer atlas can get you started.be careful when looking at the checkerboarded areas of wyoming though.eastern wyoming has alot more private.

Just be careful when you look at a map and see a lot of BLM because there may not be any legal access. It must be able to be accessed from a public road and most maps only show state and and a few of the county roads. The latter may no be publicly maintained their entire length, so that is something you need to look into after you find an area you like. That should be done at the county level where the land is located/

Thanks for the advice. Can I still apply for a preference point this year for antelope? I was reading the MRS for the 2013 deadlines and it was 3/15/13 for the 2013 year. I do not have the most current MRS for Wyoming. I know I am asking a lot of questions, but Wyoming is new to me. I have been apply for Colorado the last several years and I finally managed to draw a mule deer tag for this October.

That was the deadline to apply for a tag. Wyoming has a separate period for points only. It's until the end of September. It's $30 for lopes if I recall correctly.

Get a point for deer and elk also. Once you start hunting Wyoming you will get the bug to hunt other game.
