I'm trying to set up a hunting area for kids 18 and under, first time children hunters 18 and under and Team USA Olympic athletes ( 1st time hunters). I have my eye on a 640 acre plot that currently has a recreation/agricultural lease on it.

Question is.....what is the typical price per acre that the state is getting for it ? Research would indicate 1.76$ an acre.

2nd question is .....if two parties are interested and apply for a lease does it go to the high bidder? Is it a sealed bid process?

I know the Co State Trust Lands that we can access are 1$ an acre which come from our hunting lic purchases. Any info you could provide, guidance, comment is greatly appreciated.

Our local shooting club (4 Corners Rifle & Pistol Club) leases state land for our outdoor shooting range. We lease a little over 400 acres. I have been a member since I relocated here 16 years ago. I was President for 3 years and modified our lease with the State Land Board for some additional land as a safety buffer to our range. I don't know the current lease rate, but the numbers sound about right. If I remember right we lease for 5 years with automatic renewal. I believe that if the current lease holder is in good standing and wants to renew their lease, it is granted. They also make you keep 1 years lease payment in an escrow account. They have a pretty much boiler plate set of rules you must abide by. State approval is needed for construction projects, tree removal, etc.

The state has different districts for land management and the SLB Manager for the SW District was very easy to deal with. I would find out who is in charge of the area you are interested in and talk to them.

Hope this helps some.....
