My son got premium elk tag in Powers, rifle, September 17 - November 17 and I got Sixes rifle tag, November 18-26, I am looking for any info, I've ordered some maps and talked to the two of timber companies in the area, planning to go scouting next weekend and about week before the season. Please feel free to pm me, any info would be appreciated. Good luck to everybody this hunting season!!!

Just did spend a little time at north end of powers during spring bear. Seen a few elk. Looked like nice country.

POWERS: A few thoughts on the Powers hunt. Season is Sept 1 - Nov 30, rather than Sept 17 - Nov 17.

I would hunt first few days of the season before elk get pushed around a lot, unless we have really dry weather. I've noticed a strong correlation of guys hunting Roosevelts early in the bow season (last of August, first week of September) doing quite well but really dry conditions can mess with that.

The first few fall rains are a HUGE HUGE asset around here. Did I say HUGE? I would get really serious when we get the first rain during that season, animals around here really respond to that first rain.

I'd also look at the time bracket of when archery season closes, and Western Oregon rifle deer opens. You'll have 5 days in there without much traffic. Last day of archery season is September 24. Western Oregon rifle deer opens September 30.

I think you will want to have that tag filled before Oct 10 or so. Post rut will be tough.

Is your son a non-resident? The reason I ask is that would be the first non-resident I personally know of to draw a Premium tag.

SIXES: I've never applied for Sixes. I've consistently heard the best hunting is tied up through lack of access. Post rut, mature Roosevelts are VERY tough to hunt.

Thank you, Umpqua Hunter.

Yes, the season is Sept 1 - Nov 30, thank you. Yes, we applied as non residents, makes me even happier about the tag : ). I know that rain will make big difference, I was hunting N CA last year starting September 7 and we didn't hear even single bugle, temperature was 92 during the day. I'm praying for the rain already. I am planning to get trespass permission to one of the timber companies. Would it be a good idea to get a bear tag?

Any area(s) you would recommend to check? Feel free to pm me.

plenty of bears around down that way,,look for the ripe berry patches for them,,be sure to check out the wayerhouser property lease issue.not sure ,but they got a lot of land down that way.good luck on a nice rosie,,rain helps kick em in in the fall.you also may want to look into bike options to get around on the log roads.

the coastal units have a lot of log trails and gated roads unless you get the wayerhouser gate key with wayerhouser permit system.you will want to look into that for sure,,{not sure whitch timber companys are managing the powers unit}a lot of it will most likely be gated.
