I agree!! I know they like beer, we were in Canada fishing one time and we got back to camp and the bears popped all our beer cans and drank them. Believe it or not they liked one kind better than the other because they drank all of one kind and only a couple of the other. Can't remember the kind, but it blew my mind!!

I too thought it said potatoes and beer. I think I know what I'm making for dinner tonight!
I agree, I bet potatoes would work. Especially if you were to put a some sort of sweet syrup on them. The smell of rotten potatoes should bring them in. I'd be interested in knowing if it worked for someone. It seems like I'm constantly trying to grow a rotten potato farm in my pantry. The only thing I don't like about the idea is the thought of packing them in. Seems like a lot of weight for not very much bait? But that may also be because I have to walk quite a ways to my bait sites.

So just talking with a friend who baits in Wyoming and Idaho, they said they use rotten potatoes a lot because they're so readily available and smell terrible. Said it works great!

After you think about the potato thing it makes sense. Bears like beer, and from this thread we have learned they are discerning drinkers. Vodka is made from potatoes. Perhaps sweetening the bait with a little vodka will increase its appeal!
