Possible Western States Grizzly Bear Hunts

I know where i would go with a tag!!! and all i gotta do is sit there, shoot my gun in the air, and wait...not gonna be tough, but sure would feel good to get some revenge on a couple specific bears who were a royal PAIN for me through the years. Unfortunately, i still see this being at least 2 years away from happening if at best, we went through hell with the wolves, and now the enviro groups are fully ready for another battle over the griz. I hope im wrong, but i see it being held up in courts for a while before an actual season comes into play

step in right direction for sure! thanks for the post, getting one of those tags would be so sweet, I hope they don't turn it into some auction only thing.

I saw WY proposed NON RES tag fees, something like $7600 for the tag! and going up each year...

that's INSANE!

these once in a lifetime tags should either be 1 price, or at least a reasonable multiplier, like RES x5 = NON-RES.

they should issue 2 boar tags until they get a better quota figured out, 1 res, 1 non-res, in each state, ID, WY, MT.

The sad thing is $7600 is still a bargain.

mtnguide, do they act like our coyotes and buzzards up there and come running at the sound of the gunshot/dinner bell?

where i was...ya. the older bears who had been around a while would always come to gunshots. . once snow fell on the ground, they would honestly follow step for step in my horsetracks just hoping to find food...they are smart buggers! . . and for a NR the price of bison is $2k+...bison can be hunted in the states on ranches in many places....grizzlies cannot be hunted anywhere in the U.S. and the cheapest option to go anywhere else would be canada or alaska for at LEAST 12k+ i would guess. . So if there are only gonna be a couple tags available, its no surprise thats the price, as a commissioner license for elk goes for 10k+....all i can hope is my Resident price is just a couple hundred!!haha

I've only put eyes on a few around Yellowstone and up in Banff. No doubt tags will be high. They could put the NR tags at $20K and folks would hunt to say they shot one in the lower 48. I'm not one of those people though, but I'd like the option if I managed to hit the lotto.

It is moving faster than expected and we armed with all the information we learned in the ongoing wolf battle.

It is crazy to me the differences in the west and east. I cannot fully appreciate Grizzlies and the west (just yet) but Florida just went through similar scenario with black bears and those coveted tags ran a whopping $100! $300 NR. After all the moaning and groaning from anti hunting groups because the numbers were in such peril, the hunt was shut down early in less than 2 days the quota was met with 304. I will be interested to see how long this process takes and the outcome.

Scott; They may have learned some lessons in the wolf battles, but the war still rages in Wyoming and the midwest, with no end in sight. I still say that grizzlys need to be restored to their former range, specifically San Francisco, "The Grizzly Bear State", and also home to PETA and the Sierra Club.

They're trying to make a comeback here. Problem is the same reasons they got wiped out still exist and I can't think of anyone real happy about besides the city dwellers that won't have to deal with them. Most landowners view them as 250lb coons.

I think it's long overdue that they allow some limited tags for Grizzly Bears in the regions of Idaho, Montana, and Wyoming. The populations will support a very limited tag quota and it would also be beneficial to the bears. You talk to the old outfitters who guide in areas like the Bob Marshall wilderness and when we were allowed to hunt them, they had no problems with the bears, but when the seasons were shut down and they were no longer hunted, it only took a very short time before they started having bears in camp raiding food and stealing game that had been harvested. I would absolutely love to have the opportunity to hunt a grizzly bear here in Montana and even if I was not successful, to just be able to experience it and to say that I had that opportunity would be indescribable.
