I had posted this in the blacktail section but after further research I have realized that there are also mule deer in d3-5 so I thought maybe I might get more responses here. I have a tag for d3-5 and am still a new hunter. I'm in good physical shape and would like to get into the backcountry far from the crowds. Of the three zones which boast the highest chances of any legal buck? Also any hunting tip/specific areas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks, john
P.S how has this years dryness effected deer numbers and movement? And has anyone hunted these zones recently?

I just started hunting these units last year, but from what I hear is hunt the storms late in the season. Also push the manzanita patches.

Father & son,

I responded to your post in the other forum, there are mule deer in the higher elevations. I was north of Lake Alpine over the opener and saw lots of deer moving around after the storm. Nothing worth shooting though, just forks and spikes hanging around groups of does. Most of the deer I saw harvested on public land were all taken above 7000 ft. Like I said in another post, my electrical foreman and his son tagged out Monday morning hunting the east side of Mt Reba. They killed their deer above 8000ft. My advice is to wait out this warm weather and see what the following week brings, also; try to hunt during the week there still a lot of hikers on the trails during the weekends. I hope this helps.
