Hey guys doing a long backpack hunt mid-late Sept and wanting to hear pros & cons to each system, ESP from guys who have used both.

We've used the Katadyn Base camp, high output easy to use, my only gripe is had to replace the filter way to soon, probably only had 20 gallons through it.

Gravity filters are great in concept, just make sure you have access to running water. Too much dirt or silt and you will have to backflush just about any gravity filter.

There is a product that I have used to reduce the amount of silt and dirt in water that makes all the settlement settle and allows you to pour off the cleaner water to filter before, and saves filters it's called the water wizard for river runners, I have used it and extended the life of my filters X5
