Spray a pair of $30.00 wranglers with a $2 can of camp dry and hang for a few days to let the smell go away... cheap, waterproof pants that will last. I own insulated nice pants for tree stand hunting but for hiking I just love jeans. Don't think I will ever change.
I'm a wrangler pro staffer as well. The animals just think you are a rancher when they see you. I used to get a kick when I was guiding hunts and the hunters would ask why I didn't wear camo. They were usually sitting there in $1,000+ worth of brand new camo/boots/etc to go road hunt antelope and mule deer. Pretty funny stuff.

Ive worn the russell l3 zephyr pants nice pants little baggy for me 6'3" 220. Liked how light they were liked how you could get them in mossy oak brush as i think that is one of the best patterns for hunting the west. Had an issue with the pant pocket buttons breaking off. Still wear them but there more just for antelope hunting now. Have had the Sitka mountain pants for two seasons now really like them, I like the built in belt and also the inside waist (sticky grip) for lack of better words, but that hugs your waist nicely and keeps pants where they need to be. Like others said i took out the knee pads just didnt seem necessary, and they were a bit bulky. Pants stretch really well and have had no rips or tears and have hunted pretty hard in them. Scott if you do a review pants I would like to see would be the First Lite kanabs, sitka timberline or mountain, kuiu attack or tiburon pant, and maybe a arc'teryx or patagonia non hunting brand pant. I'd really like to see you guys try to do a rain gear review with the dewpoint and chugach rain gear.

Anyone using "King of the Mountain", saw them at Elk Camp a couple of times. Carbon fiber wool, ultra liteweight wool but super expensive. Claim to be windproof and waterproof. Would like to see a review of these. I have been using the wool columbias but very heavy and not machine washable, heavy duty and cheap off amazon at the right times. Also have some Kryptic closeout stuff that I like. Thanks and God bless

Any of the lightweight softshell pants have been pretty good for me. This includes the Kuiu Attack, Stoic Overhang, and several Outdoor Research variants.

As for wool, I do have the First Lite Kanabs, and they are pretty darn comfortable! I look forward to using them a bunch this year.

I'm still wearing the Kings camo pants. They're made of quick dry material which is nice for those damp mornings and hot afternoons. I'm looking for a pair of sitka acsent or mountain pants in the forest pattern. I've got the top in forest, but can't find the pants. Any ideas?

Love my First Lite Kanab pants. Throw on some gaiters and you're good to go.

No mention of the Army Surplus Wool?

I've probably worn them on 50% of my elk hunts.

I'd read a story called "Thrift store Hunting clothes"

2Rocky is right if you want cheap and functional, there you go!

My pants:
Kuiu Attack Pants - Best I've worn!
First Lite Kanab - great pant, slight fit issue in the thighs; same reason I hate Wrangler jeans, I'm a Cinch guy.
Cabela's Revolution Fleece - great overall but too warm for early season and they soak up water in extended rain or wet snow.
Carhartt Double Front Dungarees - when its dry... think Lopes with a rifle!

I just bought a pair of Kuiu attack pants for the early season. I'm heading out tomorrow for nine days so I will see how they hold up. For late season rifle hunts I have a pair of Under Armour pants. I know that brand isn't super popular on here but they are a great late season pant. I have been using them for four years and I love them for cold weather and deep snow!

In God,
I loves me some UA Gear! My wife and I wear it all the time and I've always thought it was good quality and performed very well! As a coach I get some great deals on their gear and I enjoy the quality, fit, and performance.

Posted earlier that I had bought a pair of Propper STL1 pants but had not tried them yet. Have had a chance to try them now and so far so good. Pants are about $50 so at the lower end of the spectrum and I have never had a pair of the high end stuff so not sure how it compares. Light weight, nylon + spandex material for stretch, DWR finish, dry fast, seam to be tough for the light weight, STL1's are a little bigger cut than STL2's which I am going to try next. Happy enough with these that it is what I will be wearing on a five day backpack elk hunt in first rifle season Colorado.
