Looking to definitely doing an antelope hunt, but possibly combining it with deer too. Looking to get a chance at a good representative of each species as it will be our first time out. Been scouring the outfitter pages, but man there's a ton of them. Anyone have suggestions on some people to look in to? It'll be a father/son hunt. I'm 36 and he's 56.
Thanks

First, do you have any points and how many? Antelope is certainly a hunt that can be done DIY. I would certainly plan for sufficient time if doing a two species hunt. You may even need to guides if going that route.

I've done a lot of research for a pronghorn outfitter. Most offer combo hunts but when you do a combo your usually going to give up some quality as you're dividing your time between the 2. Here are the ones I narrowed my search down to:

Table Mountain Outfitters
Moore Ranch
Werner Ranch
Spearhead Ranch

My reaerxh focused on archery hunts but I'm sure they do rifle as well.

There is some great mule deer hunting in SE Wyoming and tags are not hard to get. Private land access is the key. If you want an outfitted hunt I would call some of the ranchers that outfit. Table Mountain is ok and Spearhead takes tons of antelope every year, but they are full time outfitters. Some of the ranchers run very few hunters to control quality of the take. I personally know rancher with 10,000 acres that only takes 2 hunters a year max, most years only 1 hunter. Look up landowner info on county GIS systems online and call some ranchers, G&F might be able to give you some names also of landowners who outfit. They do not have to be licensed outfitters on their own and leased land so they do not show up on the outfitters association website. Antelope tags in this area are not hard to draw.

I would sell all my hunting stuff, join peta, and take up golf before I went hunting with SNS.

Sy Gilliland does not care one bit about either DIY resident or non resident hunters, in fact WYOGA has tried the last 2 legislative sessions to run bills increasing the percentage of special fee NR tags from 40% to 60%. That move would have eliminated 20% more of the available NR tags from the youth priced NR pools for deer, elk, and pronghorn. In a conversation I had with Sy about a year ago, he thinks that NR youth should be paying the special fees, and would like to see all the NR tag fees increased to the Special price. He also said he thought all (youth included) Resident elk tags should be $500. He asked if I could support that...yeah, when pigs fly.

This type of legislation is damaging to the sport as it creates a system that is in defiance of the North American Model. It also creates a system where those with the fattest wallet get more access to our wildlife resources.

At a time when we need hunter recruitment, hunter retention, and reactivating those that have been away from the sport a while...the last thing we need are bills run by WYOGA that damage our ability to do all three of those things.

Also fair to note, is that WYOGA has not taken a position on public lands transfer, and, IMO, if you're not opposing PLT, then you're supporting it.

The bill that WYOGA pushed on the 60/40 died on a house floor vote yesterday, thanks to the actions of local Wyoming Sportsmen's groups.

I have also heard enough first hand accounts about SNS to feel comfortable telling people to avoid them. There are more ethical outfits to choose from... keep shopping.

I agree 100% Buzz, Sy Gilliland and his S-N-S outfitters are the resident and nonresident, DIY, public land hunters worst enemy. And besides Gilliland is a money hungry, greedy Jerk.

Good information there. Always someone wanting to line their pockets at the loss of others. Just like locals here in Arkansas wanting to keep out NR from public lands and water here. I always ask what part of public do they not understand. Where do you think most states got the money to buy public lands? The public or federal government.

Highly recommend Bighorn Outfitters. Dustin and Rich are great guys and they have good land for both antelope and mule deer. I have hunted antelope with them twice, last time was with my dad. They have a nice combo hunt where you hunt deer during morning and afternoon and antelope in the middle of the day. I have not yet hunted deer with them but have seen several real nice bucks taken and also spotted a bunch while antelope hunting. The Sheridan area is infested with antelope, but perhaps not the greatest if you are focused on a real big trophy. PM me if you want more info.

I would give Ken Hart a call from Hart of Wyoming. I was on my first mule deer hunt this year with Ken and really enjoyed his service. He is in the Lost Cabin area. He has combo hunts and really worked with me and my two brothers for our hunt. Check out his Facebook page and Website. Really enjoyed hunting Wyoming, was out there 3 years ago on a antelope hunt.

I would call Alan Fowles, Trophy Creek Outfitters 307 267-9383. Alan and his sons operate the business and have so here in Casper for many years. He has some great places to hunt, but most importantly, the Fowles' have it figured out. Not many know how to hunt like these guys.
