OTC or Easy to Draw Elk

I want to hunt elk with my bow next year and I was looking for some OTC or easy to draw permits (1 year) So I can chase some bulls in 2012. Any sugestions helpful.

Idaho is mostly OTC for archery. Colorado has more elk but more hunters as well.

Not all archery elk units in Colorado are OTC. Best check the regs. before choosing.

I have experience in both Idaho and Oregon and they both have lots of OTCs. Idaho has more bulls than Oregon but it also has more hunters. I'd do some research. The units I hunt in Idaho have about 600 hunters while Oregon only has 250. I've really noticed the bugling slowing down in Idaho, maybe from hunting pressure and wolves.

SE Idaho has a ton of hunters and it can be really difficult to get away from them when trying to find your own spot to hunt.

If you are willing to get off the beaten path and do your homework then Colorado is the place. There are a lot of elk but also alot of hunters!

put in for a great unit in NM, everyone has the same odds, ie no points.

I'm not sure I'll ever hunt another OTC unit for archery elk particularly!

IMO all tags should be unit/area specific and by draw only, even if they're always 100% draws.

ID doesn't seem to get much love these days, and maybe while you're at it you could plug a wolf. ID didn't even sell all of their non-res tags last year or the year before I don't think, which could mean less pressure/more elk/older elk.

Not true about NM. Everyone but a nonresident DYI hunter has an equal shot at a tag. Non resident dyi hunters only have 6% of the tags set aside for them.
