I know it's kinda last minute but my buddies and I have the oquirrh-stansbury general muley tags and are hoping for some insight. Such as areas to avoid as far as pressure, and I heard there are wild horses in that unit? Also what land are the oquirrhs' on? Is it BLM? State?

We are ball Buster's and will get in as far as we can to avoid pressure. We're planning on going to the tops of the peaks of either range.

Good luck to all this coming opener.

We're going in swinging for the fences. It'll be a good time, two good buddies and the high country! Life is good. Good luck everyone.

I live near the Oquirrh-Stansbury unit and it can be a little difficult to get away from hunters because the proximity to the wasatch front. It can be challenging to get away because of Utahans fondness for ATVs and UTVs. Lots of trails on this unit. The Utah Division of Wildlife Resources had a good map that shows the private land and public land. I know there are 2 army depots and a national guard base on the unit and also the largest open pit mine in the world as well. All with no access to the public. Those are big chunks but still there is great public land access The mine is located on the Oquirrh Mountains, the mountain range closest to Salt Lake City. I have learned in all my years hunting in Utah is when you get away from the roads you can find shooter type bucks, in some cases only a few hundred yards if you get off further you will have get away for sure. Also hunting past opening weekend helps too, most people home on Sunday leaving the mountain almost empty. This weekend you will see lots of orange most Schools are out the 2 days before the hunt.
