Well I took him up on it and had a blast. Had a turkey in the truck by ten on Saturday. My first time ever. I am going to have to write down in a notebook all the stuff I learned. Super nice guy, super hospitable. I had no idea there were so many turkeys over there. He seemed to find them all day. Really fun

I'm sure you learned a lot from that GA boy. Boys from GA can educate some turkeys. Been doing it a lot longer down here as we've had turkeys for a lot longer than the western states. Congratulations. I would have loved to been with y'all on that hunt. I'm sure it was exciting.

So lets begin with the story now that the forum lets me in the thread.

I had been scouting some birds and listened to them Friday morning to see if they were still there. Sure enough they were. After a LONG day at work and watching the clock "Tick Tock Tick Tock" it was quitting time. I burned the tires up on the road covering ground checking numerous spots in the Basin. Found a spot loaded with gobbler tracks so this was going to be my back up. Againstthewind gets to my house around 10 something we meet show him his room and watch some hunting on the tv. Not long we hit the sack. I had another buddy that we met up with in the morning. He had first shot but only had a hour or two to hunt. He committed first to go with me. We get to our spot fairly early and get to where the birds were roosted the morning before. Sure enough they are hammering. Now it is pretty early at this point and I thought I heard more birds and just listened to them from a couple hundred yards. About 20 minutes before fly down we ease into the woods to set up on the birds. To make a long story shorter three other people were setup on the birds. They were WAY over calling and the birds hit the ground going the other way. So now off to plan B. On the way out people parked beside us and moved in on the birds we were hunting. I am gonna tell you I was pretty upset about the deal. Since people are on here that live in Powell you know who you are and all I am gonna say is show alittle bit of courtesy next time. Complete disrespect knowing I got there early and they still moved in on us. Oh Well. We moved about 100 miles away to the spot I found gobbler tracks the day before. We start easing around knowing the birds were somewhere in the area. While I was glassing I round a corner and see a full fan about thirty yards away. He is blowed up with two hens feeding away from us. We circle to the other end of the field and set up. They are in a narrow section of timber between a field and river. I knew we were about to seal the deal. I get him set up and let out a few raspy yelps and he hammers back. After about ten minutes of him getting closer he popes out on a high spot and does his thing. Struts back and forth for a good thirty minutes. The hens are all around him but feeding to us. He is just a hair to far about 80 yards. After he couldn't take the sweet calling any more he starts moving into the row of woods we are in. knowing he is not going to get any closer and having complete confidence in my gun. I tell him to shoot. He does a back flip and gets up. I tell him to choot him again and he does another flip and get up again. I proceed to run over there and I tattoo his tator. I did not want the bored to get away and againstthewind leg was asleep... However he got his first bird. He was a respectable bird. 22lbs inch spurs and 12inch rope. Here is a better pic of the bird. It may be his first hunt but I promise he will be back. This stuff is so addicting if I could inject into my veins I would be an addict. He listened to me followed directions and sealed the deal. The bird actually was not going anywhere. Both legs and one wing wee broke. Congrats aganstthewind. I am off to kill my bird now. If I do I would be more then glad to help someone else kill theirs this season.

I've been telling my wife about this thread, and we have been seriously talking about turkey hunting. She really wants to try it.

This weekend we were taking our horses out to ride and found a nice turkey gun in the parking area of a public hunting area. I told her, "Look, someone really wants you to have a new turkey hunting gun!" She turned it into the sheriff's office yesterday. Sure hope whoever dropped it gives them a call.

She did shoot the three rounds that were in the gun. 3 1/2" 5 shot. "Wow! Those have some snap."

Haha. They sure do. Look at this from a couple weeks ago. My buddy's son wanted to shoot my gun so of course I said ok.

LOL. She handled it better than that, but was impressed. Far different than duck loads.

My Benelli Nova is set up to control recoil so it wouldn't be as bad.

Yes you do! And that's what I mean. Congrats on some awesome success. Wish I could fly out and hunt with ya. Sounds like a blast and I haven't shot anything outside of the easterns. Could be a huge first step to a grand slam.

Come on out here MAtthouek21. You can nock out two of the supspecies in one trip. Be more then willing to help a fellow Georgian. Between Montana, Wyoming and SD you could make one heck of a killing spree.
