Very valuable tool if you hunt where there is a mix of public and private. Doubly so when learning the area. If you hunt on all private or all public, know where you are, not as much of a need for it. IMHO anyway. I use it on my Garmin hand held, my buddy downloaded it to his I-pad. If you are hunting with road access, the big screen on the I-pad or equivalent, is pretty nice.

I think it is a must now a days, with so many different seasons and limited quota areas and in Wyoming the wilderness. Also shows walking trails and water, probably one of the best investment's.

I find it very useful. If you don't have the ability to put different type topo maps on your gps, the OnX maps have most of the old decommissioned roads.

Yes Joe, for about 30 you can update every year. Most are updated sept-oct time frame.

Once you use it on 1 hunt you will want it for every hunt you go on! Even if the area is mostly public land its really nice to know exactly where you are, where the unit boundary is, ect. Hunting private land I found it very useful too because I could easily see where the ranch boundaries were. You wont regret getting it!

Reviving an old thread, but I use this and yet have a stump. I cannot find a ledgend for it any where. I am headed out at first light to an area Inhave seen elk migration started in from the air over the last few weeks and when reviewing roads and trails, I cannot determine the significance of solid white road vs long white dashes. Trails at least say trail so I know I am on foot from there, but it would be nice to know more about these symbols used to denote roads. One in particular is labled FS### so I assume Forest service road. However some are roads, some are gated closed these days.

The problem with the road designations on the OnX maps is that the Forest Service and BLM will close roads at will and they will still show as a open road on the chips.

Mostly if you see ========== this is a two track road that you might be able to drive on depending on if it is open or closed. If it is--------- it is a hiking trail
