Well I finally did it......! I got rid of my flip phone and got a new IPhone Apple 10. Man did I jump into some deep water. Actually not as bad as I thought.

My wife and I are spending a month in Alaska and I need to get email, have internet access and facebook. I have a tablet, but would need WiFi. The new phone will let me be a lot more mobile and still do what I want as far as information goes.

Took me all these years to take the plunge....better late than never!

Don't feel bad, I took the plunge away from the flip phone just after Christmas. I was tired of trying to keep a battery charged in my flip phone. That along with the fact that it was almost held together by pieces of tape.

So since I got my new "smart phone" I have been learning all the things that it can do along with how to operate it.

And who says that you can't teach a old dog new tricks.

Yup, welcome to the land of walking zombies...

In all seriousness they can be a great tool, they can also rule your life. I work pretty hard to make sure that doesn't happen.

Scott sure called it right. Something must be in the water, because I too abandoned my flip phone for the new improved model. We just have to endeavor to not let those things rule our lives. I spent the last 2 days helping to get a snowmobile trail groomer unstuck that was sunk in a bog. We had a good crew on it.....the average age was 72. Snowmobiling is having a severe recruitment problem with the younger generation, much like hunting.

I know what everyone is talking about. We go out to eat and everyone has their nose stuck in their phone...even the kids. Whatever happened to conversation. I resisted the newer phone just for this reason. You can bet I won't become a "zombie" LOL

Not to get too far off of the subject but the new snowmobile's are getting way out of hand as far as cost. I looked at a couple and together they cost more than my first home and are pushing up to the cost of my current home.

That doesn't go well for the younger folks that want new ones every couple of years.

As for keeping the smart phones in line, I have no problem disconnecting from technology. I can shut things off and just enjoy where I am at. That along with the majority of places that I hunt has no cell phone coverage.

Welcome to the "New Age"

I need to upgrade my phone I just cant swallow the price of the new iPhone.

I understand the zombie concept....

I try very hard to leave my phone hooked up the the charger when I get home. Occasionally I answer calls after hours but normally I return the calls in the morning. For those that call me after 8:00PM, I call those individuals back at 5:00AM-6:00AM on my way to work to repay the favor. lol

You can buy a perfectly adequate used sled for $2,000. A new phone can cost $1,000 with a $130 per month contract. My grand-daughter did the heavy lifting for me. $89 Galaxy phone, $30 a month contract, and it seems to work almost everywhere I go. Now I can link to my Garmin In-Reach Mini anywhere in the world. You don't need the top dollar stuff until you can afford them.

But that isn't how this younger generation thinks. They want the best most expensive thing out there and they want it right now.

People laugh at me when I tell them that I have a prepaid contract and that my smart phone is paid off. They ask me what I am going to trade it in on next year and I just laugh at them saying that the phone that I now have will be with me until it comes up with a blank screen and doesn't operate anymore.

I just bought my new phone outright. No payments except for my monthly plan and I am on a prepaid plan and have it paid automatically so I get a extra discount. So right now I am only paying a extra $5 a month for the data that I use if I am on a cell tower.

Smart phones are too bulky/fragile for me. I put my phone in my front pants pocket and go. My fat fingers don't work on a smart phone either. Full size Ipad is barely OK. I have a sim card in it and it costs me $10.00 a month to add it to my plan. Internet anywhere a cell phone works. And my old eyes can see it!

As for my flip phone, if it breaks or I lose it $15.00 bucks on Ebay and I have a new one. I buy the same model and brand and have numerous chargers and batteries. Carry a spare battery or two in my pocket and switch it if needed. I went on a binge and probably have enough phones for the rest of my life. I bought five and didn't pay more than $14.00 for any of them.
