Bring a game cart with you or purchase one, preferebly with solid tires. You can load a whole antelope on one and pull it out with ease as long as the sagebrush isn't to high, Plus if your gonna walk along ways you can put your pack with your lunch and gear and rifle on it and drag that out with you. We have did this a few times in walk-in areas and it works slick as long as the brush isn't to high!

I was thinking of just butchering the animal in the field and packing it out. The way I read it, Im allowed to do that as long as I keep the head with me on the way out correct?

You can bone it out if you wanted too and pack it out. Thats your call. If you have an ANY-ANTELOPE tag you don't need proof of sex to be left on some meat as you can kill any antelope with it. Some areas have buck only or doe tags and those areas may or may not require proof of sex. If you were gonna mount it you can just field cape it and debone the rest of the meat and pack it out, or just skin whole head out there and bring skull with horns for a euro mount or saw them off for a horn plaque. Just depends what you want to do with it.

If you have never handled an antelope the hair comes out like they are half porcupine or something. I mean it seem like every time you touch them and by the handfull. So be prepared for that issue. We have been lucky and have been able to get them to the truck or tree to hang and feild dress. Lots of water to keep hands clean and towles to wipe hands on. Taking care of the meat fast and extreamly clean is very very important with antelope because of the heat and hair and glands they have. Several pairs of surgical type gloves might help and some cord to tie off to sagebrush if doing this in roadless areas.

My wife switched her deer app from random regular to random special tonight. Not complicated. So that is an option for sure.

We are returning to an area that we know a bit, so the extra cost is worth it to us.

With 0 preference points, I can't see historically where paying for a special tag makes that much difference in your draw odds. Sure does if your at 2-4 points. I think your money ahead to go regular draw 1st choice on a near impossible to draw Unit and 2nd, 3rd as 100% draw Units based off which offers you the most of the less than ideal public access. Pick up a couple of doe tags and you'll get a lot of bang for your buck. Only my opinion, others know much more about it than I do.
