Sunday morning I tried a different area and it paid off. Cut 3 different tracks walking together and all mature sized to boot. Dogs took the tracks and proceeded to trail up and over into unfamiliar country with no roads. After moving locations to pick up signal the dogs were over a mile out and making a big fast loop back in my direction. They came within 500yds of me and the race was hot and fast. They continued in a big circle and came up treed back out over a mile. I started my bike in and got about a 1/2 mile in an hour with the deep snow when the lion jumped and they went straight away from me and down through the big bowl and over the next ridge. I continued my bike towards the first tree and only a few hundred yards from the tree I see a lion sneaking up the ridge. I was a little dumbfounded and continued on. After another 2 hours I was over the next ridge and and could bear dogs singing. My GPS showed 2 trees 200yds apart with the pack split. When I finally got onto the south slope and could walk better I finally got a glimpse of a cat at the first tree. The rear end bailing down and out head back the way I just came from with 3 dogs in hot pursuit. I made my way to the other tree to find a big female relaxing high up in a pinion. I let the dogs up and took my pics and videos and headed off for the other dogs. We were running out of day light and my dogs got smoked in the deep snow on the north face and were cold trailing the cat again. I called them off and had to head down. I was 4 miles from my truck with only about an hour of light left and one dog missing still. I was able to get a few texts out and headed straight down to a road about 3 miles away. By the time I made the road was slurring words and freezing in the dark and still missing a dog. I got my trusty fire making gear out and fire up a big white an fire and warmed up. My dogs curled up and slept while I waited for my buddy Joe to show up. An hour or so later joe had me back to my truck and I was searching for my dog. Her GPS wasn't working and I had no telemetry signal at all. I finally had to come home but headed back out first thing Monday morning to find her on the road where I came out. I'm ready to chase that cat again!
