Hawaii, Florida, same difference. Bottom line is you are in the WRONG state! There are 51 other weeks in a year for you to be gone and you pick this one! Im about to go buy a few 30 packs of Keystone and a roll or 5 of Copenhagen and go down there myself;)

Come on over MM, it's gonna be fun.
I was gonna run my dogs early this morning but the smoke is really, really bad. Not sure which of the tons of fires in Cali this is from but it's bad!

Probably the Butte Fire which is burning in Calaveras County. Sounds like it pretty much took out the community of Mountain Ranch, but so far that is just a rumor. Should chase a few more bears your way.

That is what I told my Brother in Law when he got married the opening weekend of Colorado Elk Season a few years back. I was supposed to be the best man, but I was wearing my orange in CO. Like you said 51 other weeks in the year!

It's that or the Yosemite fire over here. Either way we will run some smoking bears then!

My kids birthday is today and we go to Fl every year to visit my folks and Vaca for 10 days. I don't pick the days the wife does. Lol. Plus the hog hunt this week will help with the joanzin I'm feeling for hunting. Might even squeeze in a gator hunt if I can get it put together.

Come on MM I dare ya! I'll bring the Keystone and the gut rot whiskey for you!

Bear camp is set and ready. Everybody will converge to the mountains tomorrow afternoon and get ready. I have phone service at camp so Mak and myself might be able to post updates regularly. Calling for very cool conditions starting tomorrow through Thursday. I'm so freaking pumped up and ready!

UPDATE! Opening day was a let down. Forestry is cutting for sage hen habitat and kinda messed up all the scouting I'd done. Not a single track in 2 days. Went to another area today and made a little hike through a heavy feeding area and had success. Treed a 450# boar, unfortunately it was in an off limit zone and jumped tree fast. Ran into BLM land and treed but we couldn't get there in time. Dogs ended up walking the bear a long time and ended up dropping out of the race. 2 dogs are a little beat up but ok. MAK is pumped and got a taste and wants more. Sure wish we could have taken this bear, we will catch more.

Yesterday we had to check a new area. The sign was just disappeared on us. We went to a new area and found a very heavy feeding area. Being later in the day we decided to make a hiking loop that took us around for about 2 miles. We did the upper loop and dropped down to the lower area. About 3/4 of the way through the loop we stopped to rest and talk with hounds all around us. 15 minutes in the dogs put their noses into the wind and opened with every bit of their voice and blew out like lightning. The dogs blew up a mountain ahead of us and all of a sudden MAK yelled out "there's the bear and he's big". The dogs ran him for only a 1/4 mile when he trees. We walked into the tree and were very surprised to see a 450lbs bear making a little juniper tree shake and sway. The bear was not comfortable and we had dogs climbing the tree making him very unhappy. He jumped tree and the race was on again. He ran another 1/2 mike and treed but only for a few minutes and started walking and fighting dogs. The outcome was very tired, beat and some damaged dogs. All dogs are ok and made a hell of A race and made MAK one happy Hunter. I will post pics and video as soon as I have better service. MAK is heading out tomorrow morning so he might be able to get some up too. We have another tag to fill so more hunting is #1.
