Had heavy rains last night so any sign was basically washed out. Roaded dogs for 9 miles and they are whooped. The pinenuts are going to be thick!

The rain has been insane. We've had 3 flash floods in my area and rain everyday for over a week. If anything this should help with the drought issue here. Went up to an area close to see what kind of damage the rains have done to the already horrible roads. Not as bad as I expected but bad enough. Did find 1 small bear track way up high and the trees that were thick with small pine cones aren't as thick as I expected. Still lots of new little cones sprouting but if they go to seed is yet to be seen. These rains are crazy!

Checked out another area and one rained out bear track, decent size though. Rains really did some damage in this area and made the roads miserable. The loop I made could be a new favorite for lions and bobcat though.

Bear downs 36 beers, passes out at campground
The Associated Press
BAKER LAKE, Wash. — When state Fish and Wildlife agents recently found a black bear passed out on the lawn of Baker Lake Resort, there were some clues scattered nearby — dozens of empty cans of Rainier Beer.

The bear apparently got into campers’ coolers and used his claws and teeth to puncture the cans. And not just any cans.

“He drank the Rainier and wouldn’t drink the Busch beer,” said Lisa Broxson, bookkeeper at the campground and cabins resort east of Mount Baker.

Fish and Wildlife enforcement Sgt. Bill Heinck said the bear did try one can of Busch, but ignored the rest. The beast then consumed about 36 cans of Rainier.

A wildlife agent tried to chase the bear from the campground but the animal just climbed a tree to sleep it off for another four hours. Agents finally herded the bear away, but it returned the next morning.

Agents then used a large, humane trap to capture it for relocation, baiting the trap with the usual: doughnuts, honey and, in this case, two open cans of Rainier.

That did the trick.

“This is a new one on me,” Heinck said. “I’ve known them to get into cans, but nothing like this. And it definitely had a preference.”

Attended the bear indoctrination class today with IKIC and MAKIRA. 2 great guys with great attitudes. This is gonna be a fun season guys. Going to go run some coons tomorrow and wear out the dogs since they e been cooped up for 2 weeks while I was trying to stick something. Never got a shot on a cow, had lots of stalks. Did nail a deer but the horrible happened, 2 solid days of tracking to lose blood and tracks. My buddy got a great pic right before it all went down.

So I have an issue. 2 days back to work after 16 days off hunting and I'm realizing I'm jonsing to get out in the mountains already. I've got to figure a way to hunt more and work zero! Come on bear season!
