I am not new here but am on here reading all the time (probably too much if you ask my wife). I am from MN/SD grew up hunting whitetails and now have the western state backpack hunt bug. I am impatiently waiting on the WY elk draw as of now. If no dice then on to plan B or C.

2012 I hunted Montana elk with the bow. This was the first backpack trip for both of us. We were unsuccessful, but learned a lot. We just ran out of time once we found the elk. No major issues with the first trip. Didn't even over pack too much! Last year I went solo on a high country mule deer hunt in Colorado. Also no success. Rained every day. Kind of sucked after a while. Did see one shooter deer 4 different days. He never was in a good spot for a solo stalk. .
