So with the spring turkey season about to open I'm still in the search for turkeys! I've been out scouting a dozen times on the past 5 weeks in different areas and still can't seem to locate any birds! I've got an OTC tag and I'm willing to travel a pretty good distance to get a chance at my first turkey. Is anyone willing to share a location with me where I could find some birds? Not looking for exact locations, just a newbie trying to self learn the turkey hunting game. I live in Longmont, any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks.

Turkey hunting on the front range can be really frustrating! Here today (maybe), then gone tomorrow. It can be like finding a needle in a haystack. Have you looked at the distribution maps on the DOW site? That might help narrow down some areas. Not knowing the specific area your hunting I can't be much help. Keep at it, they're out there!

I don't know how far your willing to travel but unit 145 near springfield has a huge wintering flock of turkeys that will be soon heading into the canyons of the national grasslands in the south part of the unit. Im sure there are closer birds but I know these birds are there now on feedlots.
I've been on the DOW's hunter atlas looking at some area near fort collins, lyons, greeley. Looks like there's historically been winter flocks in several of those areas. So I've focused my scouting in those areas and slight higher elevation. Haven't found and sign as of yet. Ill keep scouting/hunting those area but if they don't start to look better I've been considering heading to the western slope where I know some birds are. Either that or I might take up the hint here and head to springfield for a weekend hunt. Lol I want a bird bad so yeah pretty much willing to do whatever it takes to fill this tag.

Where the heck is Springfield? Is that in Colorado? If your willing to travel there are some decent spots on the western slope. Shoot Kansas is probably just as close for you. They have LOTS of turkeys and plenty of walk in areas.

Springfield is a town in baca county in unit 145 in se Colorado. Lots of birds but Kansas is probably just as close. Only difference is merriams and rio grandes. also out of state fees

I just saw huntdata now has turkey concentration maps per game unit. Might be worth the investment to get a better idea of where to be looking???
