Right, I'm over in UK and we are not allowed to hunt with a bow. Big aspiration of mine is to hunt the states with a bow so I have found a little archery club and shit my first compound on the weekend. Was hoping to get as much practice as possible on targets here and then head over in a few years on a trip.
What do you guys recommend for a beginner setup, it is a mine field out there with all the different gear. I'm looking at a pse carbon air 2016 (on sale ATM). But as far as arrows, release, broadheads, sight, quiver, etc go I am clueless. Thought best to ask here and get real advice as opposed to the reviews on line that just seem to say everything is great.
Any help would be appreciated
Cheers
Sam

PSE carbon air is a high end bow for your first bow which is not a bad thing if you end up loving it.

If you buy a high end bow you should try to put high end accessories since you already took the plunge buying the bow.

Sight: Cbe tek hybrid pro, spot Hogg , Axcel accutouch
Quiver: tight spot
Release: tru Fire, Scott,
Arrows: Easton, gold tip, carbon express
Stabilizer: b stinger. Stockerized, fuse
Bow: Hoyt carbon defiant, Mathews halon, Pse Carbon air

Those are all top of the line accessories . There are many more out there just a few off the top of my head doesn't mean you need them . Also Hoyt makes entry and mid level and high level bows that come together as a package for quite a bit less than what your looking to pay and put together for Pse carbon air if your curious for other bows.

If your hunting you'll need a range finder more than likely and bow case for travel .

Also another great forum especially for bow hunting is archerytalk.com it's all about archery period

Hope this helps you out some let me know if you need more

Thanks chase, half the battle is not knowing what to get so this list will help me get started.
I thought worth getting a top bow because on sale and normally the better brands hold value more than the cheap stuff.
I have rangefinder and all the other kit just the archery gear missing.
I'll jump over to archery talk and have a look as well.
Cheers

Look on Archerytalk and you can find super deals on bows and accessories. Get a scott release new for 25, QAD rest for 50-75, new hha sight 75, no reason you shouldn't be able to find a last year model bowtech Mathews or hoyt on there for 600-700.

I am not sure the availability of bows where you are, but my recommendation is to shoot as many bows as you can. Don't get hung up on brand but rather shoot for what feels good to you. The last bow I purchased about 3 years ago I shot about 20 different bows over 3 weekends before I finally decided on the bow I purchased. It also wasn't the most expensive, but it felt the best to me.

Also, you mention you are a beginner. If you are buying the best of everything you may get a lot more than what you need. Just because it is the most expensive does not mean it is what you need. There is a lot of good equipment that can be purchased that will suit you just fine and don't necessarily come with adjustments that might only benefit a 3D shooter or someone that is much more proficient with there equipment. I guess what I am trying to say is as a beginner all the "extras" you get with the more expensive stuff could be an added frustration to a beginner.

Makes sense. I am certainly not somebody who needs to buy the most expensive. I thought I would ask about the pse carbon air as it is on sale ATM. I'm going back to the archery shop next week and have 2 hours on the range there. Hopefully will find something decent

I think it's a given that once you excrete your first compound bow you're in the club so welcome! Haha

But seriously any average bow is fine, I shot a bear mauler for a few years before upgrading to my elite I34. I now appreciate the difference but the bear served me well.

I'm heading over to the UK in july, currently trying to sort out a roe buck hunt in the Rut. Pretty keen for that to come around!

Yeh I can't imagine I will be able to tell too many differences between the different ranges of bows at the beginning. Just don't want to buy crap really and regret it.
If you get stuck for roe I can prob sort you a hunt. I'll PM you my number and feel free to drop us a message. Can't guarantee any big trophies or nothing but can definitely get you out and on some deer.

haha I hope you mean shot your first compound! You're probably best off getting a nice bow like the pse carbon air and going with the cheapest equiptment you can find. There are some great great gear reviews here -> http://www.bowhuntingmag.com/bow-reviews/ and you can get some cheap accessories for your bow here -> https://www.prolinebowstrings.com/archery-accessories/
