I'm new to Wyoming, I'm an experienced hunter in Iowa. I transferred from a school in Iowa to UW don't know much about the hunting out here. Hopefully going to do a little shed hunting, but have no idea where to go close to Laramie. What units should I apply for Elk/Antelope? I still do my Mule Deer hunting in Colorado.

I've seen lots of antelope in 38/43. Figured it'd be hard to get on private property, I don't care if it's doe/fawn or any antelope they all taste the same! (Applying as Non-Resident)

I've been seeing a couple little (4x3 is the biggest) bull elk near Medicine Bow, didn't know if it was a good area to shed hunt or not?

Was wondering about shed hunting Hunter Management Units, is it possible? Because I've seen lots mule deer and elk on those Hunter Management Units. I'll probably go walk some public property somewhere today.

Thanks for any help!

It's good to get out. Just be sure to keep a distance from wintering animals. You can't hunt sheds on hma. You can't access hma without a permission slip to hunt.

Welcome to Wyoming. Now you need to work on becoming a resident. You'll find the hunting here to be better than the Midwest by tenfold. Start knocking on some doors and you'll find a place to hunt, same here as in Iowa.

I'll have to try it, I was guessing it was like CO and most the places are bought up in smaller 40 acre or smaller parcels. I'm not really planning to become a resident or change my residency (Paying taxes in Iowa). Thanks for the welcome guys, I plan to post sheds if I find any. I was out on some BLM Land here near Laramie and didn't find a thing all the BLM/State land parcels are pretty small and spaced out.

I've been keeping my distance from the animals except when they're right off the road I'll stop and take a couple pictures of them. Guess I'll have to buy a plat book or hunt maps and start trying to figure out where to hunt some Antelope around here and find a good shed hunting spot. I don't forsee very many large ranchers letting me shed hunt their properties, but it's always worth a shot.

In general, shed hunting this early in WY isn't crazy productive, and it's frowned upon by many due to struggling deer populations. Luckily we don't have a season yet east of the divide, but that's what prompted it in the west. Just an FYI.

Ya some of the shed hunters on the western side of the state (and from out of state) got greedy and ruined it for everyone. They chase animals to see if they can make the antlers fall off. They sneak into elk feed grounds on foot and on snowmobiles after the guy feeding them leaves for the day. Stuff like that just pisses off a lot of folks. Plain old selfish greed.

Seems like the animals out here drop later than ours back home, we have lots of whitetail dropping right now. Normally I've found a dozen or so back home by now only walked a place or two.
