Hi every one my name is Ron Banta. I grew up in Sweet Home Oregon and spent 20yrs in the U.S. Navy retiring in 2005. I currently live in south east Virginia outside of Hampton roads. I have been hunting and fishing all my life and pretty much enjoy anything outdoors, camping, hiking, offshore fishing and of course hunting and fishing. Of recent I have been going to Oregon the last couple of years hunting with friends I grew up with. I have been fortunate to take a deer each trip but so far have not taken a elk. However that is not because I haven't had any chances as in 2011 I blew a great archery opportunity to harvest a really nice 5x5 but it just wasn't to be. This year I am taking my wife on her first elk hunt to Colorado as she has recently started really getting into hunting. It will also be my first time to Colorado as I have normally hunted in Oregon. After looking at all of the stats on Colorado's parks and wildlife Big game site I was looking at unit 47 due to its location close to I 70 as we will be driving from Virginia. I am not looking for anyone's honey holes as I like finding my own. I thought this forum would be a great tool to gather any possible info and maybe assist in selecting a decent unit as I would like to make my wife's first elk hunt a decent experience. We will be hunting the second rifle season as that is what works best for us. I look forward to communicating with each and everyone of you.
