Way out in Chesinimnumus, bright warm Fall Thursday, setting up a solo camp. Hunted opening and Sunday way up high didnt see a thing.IMG_3826.jpg(Thats a quarter for scale) This might have something to do with it. Found three sets of tracks within about a mile. Headed down hill Sunday afternoon, got set up and on the evening hunt saw two deer. Whoopi!. Had a good long walk in the am with a dusting of snow, came across two trucks on opposite sides of the forested area and no one had seen a thing 'worst year ever; . Decided to move west 10 miles or so and on the way back to camp blew my cow call just for kicks. It wasnt two minutes and a massive 5X6 bull was staring me down from about 40 yards. All last elk season I couldnt get any response from that thing...the big boy left before I could get my phone ready for a photo. Loaded up and heading west, turned right off the main road and spotted a spike a half mile up., had him plugged and loaded a few minutes later. Third deer I saw this trip and may very well be the smallest I've ever taken, literally a tenth the size of the morning's bull.

Did you notice a lack of coyote yelping? Never heard a peep this trip ,and a few years ago in Desolation we saw lots of cat signs and coyotes were there but always quiet. I wonder if there is any correlation between the presence of the larger critters and lack of yelping.
