Since there are a lot of introductions being made around here lately, I thought I’d introduce myself even though I've been on the forum for a while.
I am the copy editor at Eastmans’. The Eastmans hired me near the end of 2012 to be sort of the English teacher with the red pen - correcting typos and errors of every kind or slightly rewording things that are too wordy, unclear, could be better said or are not in line with Eastmans’ policy. I occasionally do the entire editing of a story, plus some other duties.
We want the journals to be exciting and informative as well as to honor the West, our great hunting tradition and the amazing animals that we have the pleasure of sharing the outdoors with. My job is to quadruple-check that what you get in your hands reflects that.
Since I live in NC I work electronically, though I do communicate with the rest of the staff quite a bit. It’s a part-time job most of the time and since God has blessed me to be able to work for myself (managing people’s investments and company retirement plans), I can be very flexible, especially when it’s close to the print date and things get a little crazy.
For all you that don’t live in the West or are fairly new to pursuing Western big game, I am the odd duck at Eastmans’ that shares your situation. I've bowhunted whitetails in NC for years but didn't start hunting the West until a few years ago. So, sometimes Guy will use me as a test case for how you might see things or how you might use the MRS, for example.
Being relatively new and not living out West, I ask a lot of questions and do most of my scouting electronically. I am a sponge for information on the different states and units and how to successfully hunt different species of western big game. There’s a lot to learn, especially for a DIY guy. I will be 60 by the time fall rolls around, so I have limited years left to handle rough terrain. I’m working hard on my bucket list, getting in better shape, doing my research and shelling out a lot of green to apply in several states, some of which want thousands upfront (ouch!).
My main goal is to hunt sheep at least once or twice but deer, elk, bear and antelope are plenty fun too. Heck, just being outdoors in the West is great.
