New Mexico Unit 51 Archery Elk.

Hey All,

Bought a Landowner tag for this unit and was wondering if anyone had any tips on hunting it or some success stories to share?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Jeff, I had a tag in 51 a few years back. I was only on public land and there were a ton of hunters. Never found any elk during the hunt but had run into a large herd of cows and calves. A landowner tag should have higher success. On my hunt those who got into elk were in the northern areas of the unit along highway 64 and the unit boundary with unit 4. I've heard there is some good private land hunting in 51B which is west of highway 84. Sorry I don't have better info. I'm hunting in unit 17 this year. Hope we both have some luck.
