New Mexico unit 36

After two years of archery practice and finally a successful draw in unit 36 (deer hunt), I can get started. I'm not familiar with this part of New Mexico. I would like to scout as soon as now. Please help. Share with me your experience.

I shot a nice 3x3 last year in 36. There are LOTS of deer in town, they are fed regularly so if you can find public land near some homes, you're in good shape. I've seen deer near/on gavilan ridge. If you drop off the ridge into the canyon, you're in for a loooovely hike. Biologists will tell you it's a very good spot with lots of area to glass just not much cover on top to stalk, and very crunchy. Pm me for more info.
