New Mexico GMU 37 Elk

I just recently got stationed in New Mexico. A buddy and I put in for a rifle tag and noticed 37 had a good ratio. I guess we were pretty lucky and got the draw. We went "camping" in the area recently and realized we are in for a difficult hunt. We went to the Baca area and seems like a difficult hunt. There is a ton of public land in the area. We were wondering if we should head more towards Roswell or stay in the Capitan or Carrizozo area. Just looking to be pointed in the right direction for a decent route into the forest right now were we can see some Elk. We are both fairly young and in good-great shape. Any advice would be nice. Thanks.

Welcome, I would stay near Capitan area. Towards Roswell will be more Mulie country.

there are more elk than you think in the area you were camping.
