Hi All! My name is Dan and I'm 39yrs old. I grew up in SLC, Utah but have moved back and forth between Portland, Oregon and SLC, Utah several times in the last two decades for school and work reasons. I did a bit of rifle hunting when I was younger but have been concentrated on archery for the last 15 or so years. Most of my experience is in Utah for mule deer but have been hunting hard for elk the last few years in Utah and Idaho. I'm building up my points in Wyoming, Colorado, and Utah and hope to start cashing in for some decent hunts in the coming years.

Outside of hunting and shooting my bow, I like to play basketball (pickup & league), go fishing (lake, stream, ice), hike, camp, and spend time with my family (2 kids and a wife).

Looking forward to getting to know some of you and contributing to this great forum.

welcome Dan. Quite a culture shock going back and and forth from P town to Utah.
Yes, Portland and SLC are very different cultures - plenty of PROs and CONs about both places. :) As mentioned, I grew up in SLC so much of the culture there seemed 'normal' to me as that was my reference and I didn't know differently. After moving to Portland in my early 20's, my eyes were immediately opened to quite a different way of living. However, many of the real subtle cultural differences were made apparent to me when I moved back to SLC with my wife (Iowa roots) and small children - she pointed out so many 'strange' things that I never noticed...things that I simply took for granted because I grew up in SLC and that's what seemed normal. ...Funny how that stuff happens....

HA! I was thinking Portland would be the place you noticed the strange things, I sure do. I'm thankful I grew up in a small town in OR, I'll leave it at that.:)

I know what you mean. Living in the suburbs West of Portland is fairly normal but going into the actual city of Portland is quite an adventure and the 'wildlife' downtown is.....ahem... interesting.
