Hi, name's Zane, new to this forum and have 23 points. Am seeking any in-put or info that any of you guys or gals may be willing to share on Colo. gmu 201. I have a bunch of questions and dream up more all the time. Thanx.

WOW....23 points! You should be able to draw any unit in the state.
Point creep is killing the draw for non residents and to a point it is killing residents also.

A few years ago a friend in Clifton figured that he could draw a unit 61 muzzle loader elk tag with 15 points. I drew my tag with 17 and he didn't draw his. A year later you had to have 16 resident points for that tag.

zanwag, what season are you looking at trying to draw? I just looked at the Big Game Application book and the only bull hunts in that unit are archery, 1st season, and muzzle loader and you'll need 25+ points for any of those seasons if you are a non resident.

Other than that I can't help you much on the unit, I've hunted the Utah side but not over in Colorado.

Welcome zanwag

If you are a nonresident: I had 23 elk points clear back in 2013 and gave up chasing 201 and went Unit 61 muzzleloader. Unit 61 was a complete blast!

This year (2017) Unit 201 took 26 points for the archery, the easiest bull hunt to draw. If you have 23 now, you would have had 22 at the draw which is a 4 point deficit. I would suspect you still have a 12+ year wait. Think of that 35+ points to draw an elk tag! Unit 201 took 7 points when I started applying.

If you are a resident: Congrats!
