Hello
So I live in central Maine, 53 yrs old and absolutely love the hunting and fishing here. Spend a lot of time working so that cuts into my time spent in the woods. Heading to Aurora Colorado next August for my daughters wedding to a great guy and will be spending another week after getting to know the woods and waters in that area.
Wondering how far I need to travel to see huntable mule deer? My plan is to do a mule deer hunt in the future and am looking for general areas to scout while my wife and I vacation in that area.

Also wondering how far it is to the Arapaho Nat Forest as we would like to spend some time there?

Thanks for any help and if your heading to Maine in the future let me know if I can be of any help.

I hunted unit 28 which encompasses part of the Arapaho if I'm not mistaking. We went out of silverthorne and hiked to Ute Peak. It's not far from Denver at all. Didn't see many mule deer up there in that country. Saw one person with a deer tag while we were there during archery season. He hadn't had any luck.

I won't be hunting for a couple years. Just looking for some interesting country to check out. For some reason I tend to hunt around water as it helps funnel deer into a smaller area. Not sure how that will work in Colorado.
Thanks for the help.

Welcome to the forum. I have family in southern Maine and my father and sister are headed to Portage next weekend for the first week of bear season. My sister is the only one hunting. My father and I both killed nice bears last year. I love your state, so beautiful.
