Hey guys, I?m new to this forum. I?m from Idaho, 33 yrs old. Been shooting since I was a little kid but originally from Southern California, so hunting never happened for me. I moved up to Idaho with my wife and two kids in February so now I?m making sure I get into hunting as I?ve always wanted to get into it. I have worked for the Fire department for 14 years now and used to work for a hotshot crew in Santa Barbara so hiking through the backcountry, putting in miles on foot, and sleeping in the dirt is nothing new to me, however hunting is. I have no ego and no shame in admitting I?m new to this adventure. I also have an 11 year old son who has been begging me to get him into hunting so I have him set up to start his instructor led Hunter Safety Course in August. He?s super excited. I have been fishing for many years but primarily ocean fishing for yellow fin and yellow tail, did some Salmon and halibut in Alaska a few years in a row. Fishing the high mountain lakes and rivers in Idaho has been an absolute joy for sure. If anyone is willing to chat about hunting tips without giving away ?honey holes? of course. Also, I currently don?t have a hunting partner, so if anyone is looking for a buddy to hunt with, let me know. Currently I?m set up for rifle hunting only using a Remington 700 in 30-06 with a 3x9x40. I?ll prob upgrade soon but that?s what I?ve got for now. Thanks and looking forward to seeing what this forum has to offer.

Ya I have my gen season deer tag too, just trying to decide where to go. My brother in law works for the forest service on the sawtooth, was thinking of heading up there but undecided yet. Any tips your willing to offer up? Thanks.

Welcome to the forum!
Best advice I got is get familiar with the Idaho wildlife laws, watch some you tube videos on how to quick quarter big game, and just starting out I wouldn't pass up on any opportunity to fill a tag. As far as a hunting partner go, hunt for a year or 2 on your own to figure out how you want to hunt, then you can match up better with someone.

The late white tail hunts are great opportunity hunts. Lots of deer and a second tag can be purchased ( at least the year I went). I'm sure their is a lot of other good hunts, but if a guy just wants to get out and hunt with a great chance to put some meat in the freezer, this hunt is a good fit. Good luck to you and your son.
