Hi all, I'm a new member to the forum currently living in IA. I have been an Eastman's subscriber for a good 15 yrs and looking around on the forum for about a year. I figured it was about time to join now that I drew another good tag out west for this fall to learn more about that hunt and expand the group of people I can share past experiences with (I've both given and received great info on different forums in the past and I hope this one is more of a good thing!). Here is a little info about me:
I'm 38 yrs old with a wife and 3 kids age 17 (boy), 7 (boy), and 4 (girl).
I grew up in MN and since getting my engineering degree I have lived in IA (twice), KS, MN, and NE with an expat assignment in Saskatchewan.
My hobbies are hunting (everything, everywhere, archery, muzzleloader, or gun - it just doesn't matter as long as I can get out!), fishing, and golfing.
Here is a pic of my best DIY, public land IA deer from a few years ago.

Later,
Jared

Nice buck! Now if you would just tell me which public land spots to burn my non-resident points on for a buck like that, i wouldn't have to go back out there again! HAHA. Congrats on the buck and welcome to the forum. Lots of helpful advice here!

Thanks all - that whitetail came out of Unit 4. It is about a 3 year wait for NRs to draw an archery tag there or you could gun hunt about every other year if that is how you enjoy hunting.

I have 6 non-resident points and am just waiting for the right time to use them. I was thinking next year 2018 archery. I will be studying lots of info this fall and winter. Maybe hoping i can find a little piece of ground to lease for archery! If not i will try to find a public piece i can hunt for a few weeks. Might have to pick your brain this fall and see what you think would be my best options for Iowa. Thanks
