I wanted to get some feedback on a new bag for my father. He is 5"9" and 260lbs. 70+ years old.....+20 +10 will be fine.....just concerned he has enough room in it and is comfortable. Most likely looking for a rectangle one I can order online so I can have it sent to the house.

14 days 20 hours 46 min 10 sec till I start up the hill to set camp......not that I'm counting or have a countdown timer on my smart phone :)

Thanks

I sure like Wiggy's. I believe they have a store in Grand Junction. Excellent quality. Check them out.

Slugz, hey I just bought a new bag a month or so back. Big Agnes Summit Park 15. I’m 6’1” and at 265lbs. This bag is not rectangle, but has shape to it. It’s not a traditional mummy bag by any stretch. I have plenty of room and is comfortable. Take a look at BA website. It might be an option. Take a look at it’s dimensions. BTW, it is a bag that is used with a slide in sleeping pad.

Several years ago I bought a new bag from Cabelas in Grand Junction. It is their brand & rectangular. I treat sleeping bags like boots....I need to try them on before I buy. They have a bunch of bags hanging and I started taking them off the hangers and getting into them. Found a great bag that is very comfortable for me. Not a lightweight backpacker, but rated to -10 with a removable liner.

So what your saying is that you get the same strange looks I get in the store...lol

Decided to post regular reply in case anyone else is interested.

Bag is a Cabelas Magnum 44. Finished size is a roomy 44"x90". Nice large zipper and has a flannel liner that can be removed. Cotton canvas outer shell. Different temperature ratings available down to -20. Price listed is $199.99. It is a nice bag as long as you don't have to carry it, definitely not a back packer.

I really like mine, very roomy & warm. I hate mummy style bags, so this fits my needs. Last year during 4th season it got down to -5 and it was plenty warm. I do use a different bag for warmer weather in muzzle loading season.

Grizzly also makes some larger sized bags and they have canvas outer with flannel lining. Also makes them for very cold temps.

Sir, check out NEMO bags, I recently bought a bag becase of the "spoon" shape and allowances for room. I am a side sleeper and the stretch section is not restrictive at all. The bed rolls from Cabelas were my second choice, the weight and space/size savings were a selling point for me. The designs are available in syntheics and down.
Cheers

I love my sleeping bag. It is a Mont Bell spiral down hugger - it's expensive, but it stretches so you can stretch out too. I'd rather post one from a sponsor, but this is the most comfortable bag I have tried by a mile and none of the traditional hunting companies make one like it as far as I know. The price varies a lot by how high a down quality you want - 650 or 800 fill power. The higher the fill power, the lighter the bag.

I have used a Western Mountaineering Badger MF for 4 years now, worked really well. Big Agnes paired with the Q-Core is another team favorite around here. With the exception of Dan P and Brian we are all well over 6 feet tall.

For a base camp sleeping bag, Cabela's makes some good ones at reasonable prices.
I have the Mountain Trapper rectangle, cotton duck exterior, flannel lined bag. It is rated to 0 degrees and it is wide for plenty of room.
You will want to get your dad a good cot and pad too.
