Hello everyone. Plan on doing a elk hunt in Montana then Wyoming in the next couple of years. Have never elk hunted or been out west, so plan on doing lots or reading.

Welcome. I am also from MI and have a deer camp in UP. Now live in CA and love thr western style adventure backpack style hunting. Start reading on both states websites. I have not elk hunted in either state. It will be Mule deer hunting in WY next year and I just started reading as much as possible about the point system and units. Others will be able to help more, but I think it will be easier to get an elk tag in Montana. I believe they even have over the counter tags.
