Hello all! My name is Ben and I'm from Tucson, AZ. I'm not new to forums, but I decided to finally stop being a lurker here and sign up, lol.
A little of my hunting history. I grew up around hunting, going with my dad all the time as a kid. I had my first deer tag when I was 13 in the fall of '98 and didn't tag out. That following Jan, my dad passed away suddenly and I never hunted since then, not really having anybody to go with.
Fast forward 15 years later and I have two young boys of my own and finally told my wife that I'm gonna get a deer tag. I used one of my dad's old Win model 70 .270 rifles he had given my brother and drew an oct coues tag for the same unit we always hunted and that I hunted last with him. Not only was it kind of a closure moment, but it lit a fire in me for hunting that was there the whole time and I guess I didn't know it! I ended up missing a forkie on the 3rd day at 280 yards cause of buck fever!
That December I got to 62 yards of a forkie desert mulie and couldn't get a shot off.
Jan 2014 I stuck a javelina for my first ever kill with an old Barnett Sidewinder bow with xx75 1918s, haha.
I drew a unit 27 sept archery bull tag last year on my first ever elk app as well with 1 BP and hunted solo for 9 out of 10 days and saw bulls ranging from spike to rags to a some decent 6x6s. I had my opportunities and got to draw back twice on 5x5s but they never would come out of the thick stuff. I learned a lot of lessons the hard way that hunt about elk hunting. I was also in the area my dad killed his last bull. I ate tag soup on that hunt, tag soup on oct coues again, hunted my butt off in Jan for archery deer, and stuck another javelina out solo on the last day of the hunt with my PSE. Apparently stink pigs are the only thing I CAN kill, haha. Still trying for my first deer...
Wouldn't you know it, I drew ANOTHER sept archery bull tag this year. Probably unit 27 again, so I get a chance at redemption. Back to back sept bull tags on 1 bp, I couldn't believe it! I gotta make this one count!!!
Sorry for the long post! Looking forward to soaking up info and helping when I can and hopefully sharing some kill pics this sept and years to come!
